Phase field models of γ-TiAl completed

A phase field model was completed to determine the microstructure evolution of gamma-titanium aluminides. The CALPHAD (CALculation of Phase Diagrams, left) method was first used to find the free energy of the individual phases of the material at different temperatures and then used in phase field modelling to predict the phase transformation at high cooling rates. The microstructure will then be used to determine the mechanical properties of the specimen (below).
